MODAL VERBS

Els modal verbs són especials. Expliquen l'actitud del parlant, i es refereixen a idees bàsiques. No solen canviar de forma.

SHOULD/SHOULDN'T
Idea bàsica: donar consell.
THE DOCTOR SAID I SHOULD GO SWIMMING AND I SHOULDN'T SMOKE.

MUST/MUST
Idea bàsica: obligació (forma afirmativa).
                   prohibició (forma negativa).
YOU MUST WEAR A UNIFORM IN SOME SCHOOLS.
YOU MUSTN'T EAT OR USE YOUR MOBILE PHONES AT A LIBRARY.

CAN/CAN'T
Idees bàsiques: possibilitat/permís.
I CAN GO OUT ON SATURDAY.
MY GRANDPA CAN'T USE A COMPUTER--HE'S TOO OLD.

COULD/COULDN'T
Idees bàsiques: el mateix que CAN/CAN'T.
És el mateix però en passat.
I COULD GO OUT LAST SATURDAY.
MY GRANDPA COULDN'T USE A COMPUTER--HE WAS TOO OLD.

HAVE TO/DON'T HAVE TO
Idea bàsica: obligació (forma afirmativa)
                   no ser necessari (forma negativa)
I HAVE TO HELP MY BROTHER WITH HIS HOMEWORK.
YOU DON'T HAVE TO COPY ALL THE EXERCISES--ONLY THE ANSWERS.

És com Present Continuous però amb WAS/WERE

1         Classifica en Past Simple (PS) o Past Continuous (PC) les formes verbals següents. Fes-ho al teu quadern. Exemple (inventat) a) PC, b) PS...

 2 Completa amb Past Continuous dels verbs que convinguin al teu quadern. Només copia la forma verbal. No et descuidis WAS/WERE i el verb –ING

PAST SIMPLE VERSUS PAST CONTINUOUS
Poden coincidir en una frase. Normalment Past Continuous descriu una acció que Past Simple interromp.
WHEN I WAS WATCHING TV (acció descrita, que té una durada) MY MOBILE PHONE RANG (acció puntual que interromp)
També es podria dir
